Another Baghead Reports Home

In April 1999 we received this e-mail and our first photo from The Chameleon:

Christine and Albert,

Yours is a great project and a truly provocative set of images and quotes.
I experienced a keen sense of self-recognition upon discovering your site.
The attached self-portrait, made about 16 years ago, will show you why.
I'm still playing in self-portraiture as an act of exhibitionism and concealment;
my recent work is more involved in costume and makeup, and I'm planning some
future projects to include masks that I'm designing and fabricating.
I'm working on a website, and at times, seeking a sense of permission to put
my stuff out there. Your site was a definite "go" signal. Thank you.

The attached doesn't exactly follow the structure of your project. I didn't do a
corresponding clothed image (though I did experiment with augmenting the head mask
with a penis mask), and I would have to say that the image rendered on the bag is more
of an alter-ego than a self-portrait (but what's the difference, really?) In spite of
this I think the spirit and the issues that the act and image raises have much in
common with your project.

Three months later, still inspired by our site, we received this:

Albert and Christine,

I contacted you a few months ago and sent a nude-masked self-portrait that
I took about 15 years ago. I wanted to let you know that, inspired by your site,
I recently renewed my exploration into the world of baghead exhibitionism while
vacationing at a country house in nearby Virginia. I painted the bags; my partner
joined me in the posing. It was incredibly energizing. A sample of the results is attached.
(I call the one on the right "Death and the Maiden.")

I spotted an article in a local paper saying that Margo St. James was having a birthday party and fund raiser for her latest prospect St. James Infirmary, a free health clinic for sex workers. What a great idea, I have been a fan of Margo's since her days as the organizer of whores and Coyote, what a wonderful job she's done. She is looking for donations to support this great project which is already in operation, send your checks to

Mention Nudesmasked.com and you will get a blessing. I received a warm reception as soon as I explained that I would be taking photos for nudesmasked.com. It was exciting to meet Carol Queen and her partner Robert, they were happy to strip and be bagged and they did a great job on their bags.

I suppose you will put this photo of their faces on the free page and the naked one inside. I have read all of Carol Queen's books and wish her column was more widely distributed. You can find her books at Amazon.com; my favorite story of hers appears in Pat Califia's Anthology Doing it for Daddy, the story is called The Leather Daddy and the Femme. I identify myself as a bi butch top so you can imagine how wet I got reading this story last year. It was a cold night and the party was held in the patio of a bar and restaurant called Pier 39 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco.  Despite the weather I got a lot of cooperation I hope you enjoy the photos.  I did my best to follow your format.

Dear Christine & Albert,

Just wanted you to know how many erotically pleasurable hours I have spent voyeuristically viewing your site.  I am an 80 year old Jungian analyst living in Zurich. I studied with the master and my training analyses was supervised by Dr. Toni Wolf. I have had a life time interest in active imagination and masks. In my younger days I didn't need much encouragement for me to disrobe. I posed nude for man ray ( my claim for immortality) I spent time with and posed for Hannah Hoch often masked. I still spend August in a naturist village in France. I have collected photographs for many years, primarily nudes which I have purchased at flea markets all over the world. In fact I purchased some of the included ones 25 years ago at the Marin City flea market from a young man named Larry who after a long song and dance concerning their appearance admitted he had found them in the dump.

I know that all of these photographs are at least 30 years old taken at a time when women were beginning to feel comfortable about with their bodies. I often wonder if these photos could talk what tales they would tell. The masks are from my own collection. I hope these pieces will be of some interest to your members.

~ Yours,

Dr. Z
